What to do with hearing aids?
Are you holding on to old hearing aids because you’re not sure what to do with them?
Hearing aids are not collected as part of your local recycling collection or at household waste and recycling centres. But it is possible to give them to a charity, so read on to find out how.
Household recycling collection
Hearing aids can’t be recycled at home.
Household waste recycling centre (HWRC)
Hearing aids aren’t accepted at household waste and recycling centres.
Other recycling collections
Donated hearing aids are repaired, refurbished and sent overseas for reuse in developing countries. Batteries for hearing aids are also wanted.
Collection points for hearing aids can often be found at:
- Doctors surgeries
- Hospital audiology departments
- Private hearing specialists
- Veterans Hearing Foundation (certain hearing aids only)
- Hear Today Hear Tomorrow (accept donations by post or at drop off locations across Scotland)
Recycling is constantly evolving and changing so check back for updates or try our recycling locator to find out what you can recycle at home and where you can recycle or pass on unwanted items in your local area.
